Perianal tumors are tumors that develop on or close to the anus. Dogs have several types of glands around the anus. Some of the material they produce is stored in the anal sacs, which are two small pouches located beside and slightly below the anus. Perianal tumors most commonly arise from the glands or from the anal sacs; however certain kinds of tumors can develop from other perianal regions. Perianal tumors are primarily 2 different types.

The nodules were diagnosed as perianal gland adenoma based on histopathologic examination. After therapy with cyclosporin A for 5 wk, the perianal masses were moderately shrunken. Cyclosporin A is a cyclic oligopeptide macrolide that is extensively employed in organ transplantation, auto-immune disorders, and dermatology of human and veterinary medicine due to its immunosuppressive properties 1. It also has a potential for the treatment of perianal fistulae and epitheliotropic lymphoma in dogs 2 , 3. Three types of glandular tumors, namely perianal gland or circumanal or hepatoid tumor, apocrine gland tumor of the anal sac, and apocrine gland tumor commonly occur in the perianal area of the dog 4.

Neoplasias in the perianal area of the dog are frequent, and there are two main groups of glands from which tumors can originate:. From these glands, both benign adenoma as well as malignant adenocarcinoma tumors can develop.
